Free Spann! 27-10 W over Akron Postgame
I think Kill's fascination with playing Me'co Brown was the story of the game. He's got it all backwards as Me'co should have been spelling him rather than vice versa. Chad Spann should be starting every game and seeing the majority of the important snaps early. How do you feel about the way our backs are being utilized?

Better play-calling on offense this week other than that I believe. We saw more shots down the field, but Grady's limits in accuracy were magnified. But I'm sure the wind had a little to do with his performance.
Kiel & JO were a little banged up throughout the game. No turnovers on O, one forced on D.
Strong play on D other than some lapses in the secondary. We are really missing David Bryant out there. Akron went 0 for 10 in 3rd down conversions and was outgained 275-31 on the ground. By over 100 in yardage overall.
Special teams were big with Salerno & Wilber averaging 49 yds per punt, 2 inside the 20. Akron's guy only averaged 33.4.
How undisciplined this team is this team, garnering 9 penalties for 105 yds. Bad calls? Young players?
Short week and another home game on Thursday. Eastern Michigan plays tonight at 6, on the road in Fayetteville against the Arkansas Razorbacks on ESPNU. Right now, CMU is taking on the BC Eagles on the road on ESPNU as well. Enjoy your Saturday.

Akron Game
It wasn’t a pretty game. The final margin of victory didn’t feel like it was deserved.
I’m with you on the RB choice, but don’t want to diminish Meco’s potential. But if you are going to run up the gut, Spann should be the guy. DeMarcus is athletic, and I was glad to see his passing efficiency (and confidence) improve by not throwing so long. Wind was a factor, but so is his arm. Not nearly so intuitive as Harnish. He got the win with his team, though, and I’m happy for him on that.
Hard to draw the line between playing with intensity and making mental errors. At least some of those 105 yards in penalties were marginal. But they always are. And, again like you, I don’t like giving up the big pass plays to blown coverage or missed assignments.
I suspect coach Kill would agree that the Huskies played with some improved desire and intensity, but we’ll need the discipline and mental preparation over the next four games to have a shot at a bowl game.
Two out of four will get us a winning season. Three out of four MAY get us a second look for a bowl opportunity. The loss at Toledo looms very large now as we look to closing out the season with two “should wins” and two high stakes road games.
If we fall asleep at the wheel either of the next two Thursdays, those final two road games will be must wins. How likely is that?
This late in the season the entire league is playing better. Looking at yesterday’s outcomes, no reason to think that any on our remaining schedule will be gimmes.
Especially at Ohio and closing out at CMU.
Step it up guys. Heads in each game. Every game.

Why was Spann left in in garbage time? One more injury, especially to Spann, and we have a losing season. We have to be ready for Ohio. They did not look good against BSU, but then again look at us versus Toledo. We should have won that game, too. We need to have some kind of passing game, just to keep the D honest against the run.
