Silas Picks Up His Second Straight MAC West Player of the Week

Another week, another accolade for Xavier Silas.  Silas was named MAC West Division Player of the Week  after leading the Huskies to back-to-back road wins for the first time since March 2006.  The Junior Guard has been on a tear in the past two weeks since coming back from a hand injury that kept him out for a whole month.

In the two road victories, Silas averaged 24.5 PPG, 7.0 RPG and 3 APG.  He also set a school single game record by going 15-15 from the free throw line against Ball State in the MAC opener.

If Silas continues to play at this level, he will be a serious contender for MAC Player of the year.  Silas leads NIU with 19.1 PPG and is second on the team with 5.8 RPG.  Up next is a showdown against Western Michigan and MAC leading scorer David Kool 19.8 PPG.

Congrats Mr. Silas!

I’m really looking forward to seeing him play on Saturday.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Ricardo Patton

I am not sure if it’s appropriate to say this, but if NIU does not finish at least .500 this year, I think he needs to be fired. He has made absolutely no progress in almost 3 season here. Rob Judson’s first several seasons at least offered us some false hope. Patton has also not been able to recruit effectively in the Chicagoland area as well. Now that Dennis Gates is gone, I have no idea how he will recruit whatsoever. With the exception of Xavier Silas, there are no other players worth mentioning on this team. Tony Nixon may become a pretty good MAC player, but he might need better coaching.

That seems reasonable

The team seems like it is making a drastic turnaround right now, but we’ll see what happens. This team goes where Xavier Silas goes. Hopefully we can snowball some of the success on the court to some success recruiting. It also helps that Depaul is flux right now with their coaching situation.

And in 2010-11 with everybody returning, it’s MAC Championship or bust.
