Big Time Program calls for Big Time Attendance
Promoted from the FanPosts -MB
A great effort by the Huskies against the Temple Owls. A balanced offense that really challenges the defense. Harnish was at his best. Spann and Crider produced when the Huskies needed it. The receiving corp has really stepped up.....Willie Clark and Landon Cox stepped up to the plate; and Martel Moore is looking better each week.
I really like the way Coach Kill is getting several players involved in the offense. The defense seems to be getting stronger each week. Overall the players seem to be buying into Coach Kill's strategy and game plan.
BUT, what about the fan base? The attendance figure for this game was just over 14,000? Are you kidding me? This team deserves a much stronger turnout.....and don't give me the BULL about an early start time. When I went to NIU it was pretty much a "suitcase college".....students going home on weekends. Is that still the case?

suit case college
it still is a suitcase college most of the students leave. However the attendance took a hurting this week because none of the frats or sororities were in attendance bc of female tugs. the early start time does actually hurt attendance they have done polls at school and many people do not come to early games so taht is not bull its a proven fact. but times or place never stop me LETS GO HUSKIESS
But are they working it???
I think it’s unrealistic to expect high attendance at NIU games without relentless promotion. Is there relentless promotion? If not, 14G is pretty good. If there is relentless promotion, and 14G is still all there is, it’s definitely time to “Bill Veeck” it up ha ha.
In other news, one of the guys who does ESPN Bowl Projections has us in the Pizza Bowl vs. Purdue, and the other one has us there vs., wait for it, Penn State. Glancing at the Big 10 standings, it does appear the conference has a good shot of actually coming through with its bid this year. Obviously if we go there and get any Big 10 team that would be great, but Penn State would be HUGE. And if we stay healthy, we have a shot at beating them. Talk about an absolutely HUGE win.
I normally think the bowl t-shirts with the two helmets on them generally suck, but if I can get one with NIU’s and PSU’s helmets on it, I’ll be all over that.
But no more getting carried away. Let’s win the conference though, because this really could be the best year in a long while to go to the Pizza Bowl.
promotion
this week is homecoming so promotion is up. i was handing out homecoming tshirts and they told us to let everyone know come out to the game saturday. I honestly think we will be seeing 20k in the stadium soon. This team looks great and attendance is starting to rise at other events around campus and football will too

I'll be there for Homecoming
Heading out to DeKalb with my old freshman roommate.
As for the low attendance this past weekend. Probably wasn’t helped by the 3 day Columbus Day weekend. Sometimes it’s just a little too tempting for those suburb kids to stay away from Mom for an extended weekend, I suppose.
Life is tough, but it's tougher if you're stupid.

Big name Teams needed @ HS
Most of the students at NIU as far as I could tell when I was a student there (05-09) didn’t care about the FB team b/c we were viewed as playing in a crappy conference and never had “big-name teams” come to DeKalb. Aside from the obvious…winning, the school needs to try and find ways to bring some big OOC games to DeKalb. If Toledo can do it…so can we.
They should also try and liven up tailgating a bit as well. I though what they did for the spring game w/ goose island & Mike/Jo was awesome. They should try and carry some of that into the regular season as well. Cops I’m assuming are still very strict w/ underage drinking @ the stadium. If you don’t offer any other form of entertainment there, you’re essentially shutting the door in the face of all the potential underage students who would come to the tailgate/game.
