The Huskies need your help to have a good fan showing, at-least on the books, at the Humanitarian Bowl. I, like most Huskie fans can not afford the cheapest $675+ round trip per person air fare on top of lodging for two nights. I did the only thing I could to help NIU as a fan for the bowl game. I purchased a bowl ticket through NIU to be donated to the local Air Force base for a total of $30.
The Huskies have 2000 HB tickets to sell. From my understanding the university is owed the HB those ticket sales. If any of those 2000 tickets are unsold then NIU will have to pick up the remainder of the bill. This money will come from from athletics/fans pocket either way so why not make NIU look good?
A secondary result of you purchasing a bowl ticket is you can help the Huskies to get future bowl appearances or even better ones. With this years revised rule that non-AQ teams with 7+ wins do not have to be picked over AQ teams with 6 wins fully exposes what the bowl system is all about, if you didn't already know, MONEY with a capital $. We witnessed this in 2003 & 2005 when worthy NIU teams were denied a bowl appearance. Granted it does not help that all but one of the MAC bowl tie in games takes over a small fortune to get to but we still need to do what we can.
A third result of you purchasing a bowl ticket is that NIU can get towards building the IPF quicker. Less bowl money going towards expenses means more money that can go towards facilities. Wouldn't it be nice if we could pay off that Yordon Center with the Minn buyout money and the bowl extras!
The selfish result of you purchasing a bowl ticket is that you can add to your HASF points for better seats at NIU sporting events. FYI, I do not have anything to do with HASF other than I am a donor myself. The main reason I decided to donate is to get better seats for MAC championship and the upcoming Soldier Field game next year and Kansas at home game the year after that. Both of these games should be sell outs and I would like to have the best seats I can for these events while helping athletics at the same time.
For those of you on tough times I understand that this is not a time you can help but those of you who can spare $30 without a problem please help the Huskies out.
