Is this the start to the IPF???
I found this article while randomly searching for NIU news. Could this be the start to getting the Yorden center paid off and getting the IPF started?
http://www.daily-chronicle.com/2010/12/14/niu-sells-bonds-to-fund-campus-improvement-projects/a4gbhgc/
HERE ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS
The sale was done after the Illinois Board of Higher Education on Dec. 7 approved the renovation project.
The BOT voted in October to issue bonds not to exceed $135 million to be used for projects that will include the renovation of residential spaces; upgrades of electrical, heating and ventilation systems; renovations at Holmes Student Center; improvements to campus roads and parking lots; and improvements to intramural facilities on the west side of campus.
The largest share of the money – $112 million – will be used to fund improvements on campus. The remaining amount will be used to refinance existing debt to take advantage of low-interest rates and governmental bonds that will provide a refund on interest rates, Peters has said.
NIU Campus Improvement Projects
• New Intramural Sports Complex: Potential facilities include two softball/baseball fields, two football/rugby fields and two soccer/lacrosse fields, some of which might have artificial turf. Also might include sand volleyball courts, bathrooms, a concession stand, spectator seating, scoreboards and equipment storage.
I find this to be very promising but I also could be seeing more into this than what really is.
So what do you think?

Maybe?
Reading between the lines, if a football field is built it doesn’t make sense to put it outdoors if it is for sport team use since they already have one. If it supposed to be for intramural sports then an outdoor field might make sense. Ideally you could build an indoor facility and use it for both the football team and intramural sports.
it would be a huge hassle to share a field between the football team and intramurals…….i’ve dealt with it haha.

It seems
that all the plans are in tacked and the only thing that is needed is the dispurcement of money. Go figure.

Kind of a shocker to me
I live in Texas, but everything I see in the media says “the state of Illinois is BROKE” and the economy is suffering, so I’m a bit surprised to hear about this bond package….. it would be great to see the Yordon Center paid off
I don't know but...
By the way I understood the article I believe these bonds were sold to the Federal Government.
Though I think the Federal Government is in worse shape financially than Illinois!

Nahh sorry
I work on campus and have seen the specs on this. Unless some of that Kill Cash goes to it, the plan is to develop the area North of the Convo into an outdoor Intramural Sports Complex.
Though it does look like they are paying off the Yordon Center.
I agree tho, it would be a double win with an indoor complex.

Good news to refi the Yordon Center - if it will save money.
Still in my opinion this is not holding up to the agreement to not build anything else (IPF) until the debit is paid off. I really don’t understand why athletics hasn’t been asking for donations in a more public way with all this press the team is getting.

Compher said he has approval from the university to move forward [with IPF] in terms of costs and plans.
Through the grapevine
I am in a Functional Anatomy class here at NIU with a bunch of athletes and i happened to overhear a girl behind me today mention that the University was going to be building an IPF and that they were going to announce it in April. Since the Inter-mural Sports Complex was already announced, I am guessing this would be an entirely different facility (or maybe a late add on to the ISC project). I know that the university is going to be taking a lot of steps over the next 20 yrs to get more use out of West campus. An IPF would be a huge step in getting recruits as well.
