Depth Charting - 7 days till Iowa State

The Northern Illinois Football depth chart has been released via HuskieWire and via NIUHuskies.com.

Here is just some random food for thought:

  • Quarterback, as expected, still hasn't been decided and the three remaining candidates are Chandler Harnish OR DeMarcus Grady OR Jordan Lynch.  I can't see Lynch going out there with zero experience under his belt, so it has to be one of the former two.
  • Kicker is going to either be true freshman Matthew Simms or Illinois transfer Michael Cklamovski.  I see Simms tackling just field goals and Cklamovski as kickoff specialist.
  • It also looks like we'll be able to catch a decent amount of Jasmin Hopkins on kickoff return this year, as Tommy Davis will now just return punts and play free safety.
  • The secondary is a little beat up with our best CB Patrick George hurt, but Kiaree Daniels has a good amount of experience and should be able to fill in at least for a little while until George comes back and plays.
  • All four freshman we recruited at linebacker are on the depth chart!
  • Offensive line is thin.  Only one backup offensive lineman has seen any playing time before.  Logan Pegram looks like he's our new LG and Keith Otis is going to be at RT until Adam Kiel can work his way back into the lineup.

What are your thoughts on the depth chart?

Not to worried overall.

The only position I’m worried about is our secondary. I think we’ll be fine on the o-line as long as we don’t have 2 or more hurt at the same time. Our secondary will be thin. Tommy Davis looked lost at CB last year, hopefully he is more comfortable at the safety position. I’m very excited about our true freshman linebackers. Go Huskies!

Honestly these teams are pretty evenly matched

I went to ISU, so I’m biased and think they might be a little better, but I wouldn’t put the line at more than 2 points. And it’s the first game of the season, so who knows whats working and what isn’t.

With this game being on a Thursday, any chance of TV coverage?

I have the same fashion sense as Tom Arnold.

RT

Should be a good game which could go either way. In chicago, game will be on comcast sports net. For NIU, I’m most concerned with right Tackle. With Kiel being out, I’m detecting a strong odor of mediocrity.
