HUSKIE Defense needs some work

Yours truly was at Soldier Field and witnessed the one-sided victory by the Badgers.  Make no mistake about it, Wisconsin is for real.  Having said that, NIU has a lot of work to do on the defensive side of the ball.  In my opinion, this will not be a one year makeover.  We've got holes to fill on the D line and linebacker.  Fortunately we have a head coach with strong defensive credentials.

I was really disappointed in our offensive performance, but I did some evaluation after the game.  We don't have a Wolffe or Spann in the backfield to help open up the passing game.  Hopkins has speed and moves, but I have my doubts about Womble....time will tell.   Harnish certainly has running skills, but the Badgers shut that down.

Bottom line:  this team is a "work in progress" and combine that with a whole new coaching staff.  This may require some patience from the Huskie Nation.

Linebackers will be better next year

The loss of Butler and Clark is proving huge on the defense right now. If they were in there this d would be much better. Next year when they are back in their the linebackers will be a strength

Not that this year is over.. But....

OK, This will be a dificult year for the Huskies. The O is fairly strong for the MAC, but obviously, not for a top 10 team. That being said, we are rebuilding as you said on D. Next year, our O line will be 80% new starters and a QB (Lynch or other) with minimal experience. I think that we will be s mediocre team next year and will be lucky to keep the bol string alive after this year. We will finish this year above 500, but only because we are in the MAC and we have a favorable schedule. Next year, will be just as difficult, if not more so. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it. This should be a good week for the Huskies, but this Div 2 team is no slouch. We need this one badly and in front of the home crowd. We should be at 500 going into MAC play. Go Huksies!
