The Northern Illinois Huskies take down the Akron Zips to win their sixth straight game on the road and improve to 7-1 and 4-0 in the MAC.
The NIU Huskies started off slow in Akron, Ohio today but eventually took over the game against the Akron Zips and ran away with one on the road.
The offense moved the ball a lot in the first half, but kicked four field goals and only made two of those attempts. That's OK, because the defense was able to make enough stops to keep the Zips at bay. Jordan Lynch was able to throw a pass to Martel Moore for the first TD and completely run over a defender for the second putting the Huskies up 20-7 to enter the half.
After that it was all Huskies with yet another field goal by Sims, a rare pass to TE Jason Schepler and a ridiculous run by Lynch for another TD.
Jordan Lynch enters the 1,000 yard club and has 1,049 yds on the season so far for the Huskies. It should be interesting to see where he ranks nationally tomorrow. He threw for 223 yds through the air and rushed for 131 yds on the ground and had a pair of TDs both ways.
NIU outgained Akron 528 to 199 yds for the game and Akron QB Dalton Williams was sacked four times for 28 yds as pressure was on him all day long. Akron also fumbled the ball twice and Demetrius Stone was able to pick Williams off for an interception.
Next up the Huskies play Western Michigan on the road, a team that just lost to Kent State on the road.
NIU has won 16 of its last 17 games and with their 36th win, this senior class became the winningest in NIU history.
