The Huskies probably won't be ranked until after the Toledo game. With Kent's big win over Rutgers, they're right up there with NIU in recognition. Slowly but surely, middling teams ranked towards the end of the polls will be picked off and a potential 10-1 MAC team like NIU will be one to break through. That is, if we can make it past the Toledo Rockets. Oh and not to mention the upcoming warmup UMass game at home.
Boise lost to a 5-4 B1G team in their first game and are ranked as high as 14th.
NIU lost to a 4-4 B1G team in their first game and are not ranked.
It's all a matter of perception and national respect.

Ahead of NIU, MAC teams receiving votes are:
8-1 Toledo is 26th in the AP, 28th in the Coaches and 27th in the Harris. Arizona beating USC gave them some respect voting wise. NIU will face a hopefully ranked Toledo in two weeks.
7-1 Kent State is 30th in the AP, 30th in the Coaches and 32nd in the Harris. Beating a #15 ranked Rutgers team vaulted them ahead in the AP and right next to the Huskies in the other polls.
7-1 Ohio got bounced by Miami OH and plummeted to 35th in the AP, 36th in the Coaches and 34th in the Harris.
