Danny Wild-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire
Northern Illinois defeats the Ball State Cardinals 35 to 23.
The Huskies retain the Bronze Stalk for one more year.
This was one of the most nervous I had been watching the NIU Huskies so far this season. It was as though there was no stopping the Ball State Cardinal offense all game, as they accumulated a total of 563 yds to NIU's 509.
However, their downfall were two missed field goals in a row in the 3rd and 4th quarters.
The NIU offense struggled in comparison to their normal selves all game long and finished only going 2 for 12 on 3rd down. 9 penalties for 81 yards didn't help either.
After going up 14-3 early, the Cardinals were able to capitalize on mistakes penalty-wise and some turnovers to score four times in a row and going up 23-14.
The Huskies were getting yards here and there, but this team continued to break things open in the 4th as Lynch tossed a pass to Akeem Daniels which he took 55 yds for a touchdown to bring the Huskies ahead again 28-23.
Just trying to run some clock out at the end Jordan Lynch broke through yet again for a 74-yarder that sealed the deal for this game.
Huskie fans, what are your thoughts after this one?
GO HUSKIES!!
