The Northern Illinois Huskies destroy the UMass Minutemen 63-0
Not too much to say about this one other than it was a very good warmup game for Toledo. Welcome to the conference, UMass.
Top performers
Jordan Lynch led the way with 191 yds and 2 TDs through the air and 15 carries for 157 yds on the ground.
RB Keith Harris wasn't very efficient (13 carries for 25 yds 1.9 ypc) but he got 2 TDs and showed what he could do. Akeem Daniels continued to be electrifying with scores of both 17 yds on the ground and 17 yds through the air.
Heck, backup QB Matt McIntosh scored two rushing TDs and a passing TD of his own. That experience is invaluable.
Tommylee Lewis and Juwan Brescacin both had 80+ yds receiving on the day.
S Dominique Ware filled in well for Jimmie Ward and finished with 8 tackles, a TFL and a PBU. S Courtney Stephen racked up 6 tackles and an INT as a backup. Anthony Wells had 2 TFLs.
Injuries
We stayed healthy for the most part. Starters that didn't even play include: WR Perez Ashford, RB Leighton Settle, S Jimmie Ward, S Dechane Durante, CB Rashaan Melvin, MLB Victor Jacques. WR Martel Moore was shaken up with a shoulder injury, but he could have played in the second half.
Despite all the injuries, the backups got to play a bunch and we still achieved a shutout.
Play of the game
The reverse pass completed by Jamison Wells for 43 yds. Gives Toledo something to think about.
Streaking
With LSU and Boise losing last night, the Huskies 20-game home winning streak is the best in the nation.
Next up
It's an 11-day break for the Huskies as they take on the Toledo Rockets in the big ESPN2 matchup for the MAC West.
Toledo plays Tuesday against Ball State.
