Well, a dissapointing end to a good year leaves me wondering where this team is heading to next year. Its hard to say what lies ahead. NIU seemed to be on the verge of a historic year and then the true defense showed up. We could not stop BG or Utah State. Our top ranked offense struggled against 2 of the best defenses in the country (statisically) and we did not control things. In some ways, it was like watching the Orange bowl all over again. But this time no trick plays to keep us in the game. OK, we were in the US game, but it felt like we were dragging our feet. Almost as if the loss to Bowling Green was the end of the year and the bowl game was a let down. So, where does this leave us for next year? A new QB with little game experience and a solid returning offense. Jordan was the leader and will be impossible to replace (I said that about Chandler as well, I was wrong there. Hope I am again) But, even worse is we are losing a bunch on a defense that was questionable at best to start with. Ward is on to the NFL (hopefully) and we are in need of some pass rushing linemen and linebackers. Lets face it. We cab end up being a 500 team very easily is the underclassmen are not improved. I hoped that when we got man handled by Florida State, that would demonstrate to our underclassmen what it takes to compete with the big boys. What do you all think about the future of NIU football. I am also a bit concerned about the coaching staff.I am not sure they are up for this either. I hope our recruiting wasnt hurt by the back to back losses we just suffered through.
