National Signing Day Pt I: Already Enrolled

New, 2 comments

It's quiet.  Too quiet.  I'm confident Kill is gonna be working until the 11th hour tonight to finish off this already lauded recruiting class for the Huskies.  We've been in the hunt for sleepers, diamonds in the rough and guys who fell through the cracks for months.  Can you hear the clock counting down?  Tick.  Tick.  Tick...

One of Kill's specialties is the unearthing of JUCO's all across the country in order to find players that can make an impact right away as Sophomores or Juniors.  This year Kill got commitments from 3 players that are already enrolled at NIU and are going to have that extra head start in front of all the freshman coming in the fall.  An advantage of these guys enrolling early is that they count to last year's class.  All will be Juniors next year and 2 are pretty much slated to start next season.

CB Chris Smith (JR)

Rivals Profile: 3-stars, 5.7
#49 on Rivals top 100 JUCOs

Other offers: UAB, Central Michigan & North Texas

Stats: 6 INTs, 69 INT return yds

There was an article about Smith that has been since deleted saying one of the main points in recruiting was possible early playing time.  This is likely because both of our starting CBs just graduated.  His twin brother will also walk-on bringing back memories of the Hansbro twins who were corners for the Huskies for several years.  Originally from Largo, FL.

Wow is all I have to say about this guy.  This is one punter that is not going to let any returner push him to the ground.  He already is the sure-fire starter at punter for the next 2 years because Andy Dittbenner is graduating.  It sure is nice to get the #3 punter in the nation per the respected Chris Sailer Kicking.  I can only imagine the bombs this guy is gonna be booming next year for the Huskies.  He even made a pretty interesting post on the Dog Pound (which has since been deleted) under the name jwilber40:

I HOPE THATS A COMPLIMENT................ CAUSE FOR WHAT I KNOW I AM A GOOD PICKUP FOR NIU..... the truth behind me choosing NIU is its a team with lots of potential. I didnt want to wait to see if I had to walk on to a bigger division I school because the scholarship wasnt on paper!!!! I also have family in Chicago and my uncle teaches at NIU. The weight gain is going down as well and that gain actually increased my hang time to as high as 5.3 seconds!!!! Hit me up if you want to ask questions or talk crap its whatever...

Kyle Jenkins is an exciting prospect as 4.8 is a very good 40 time for somebody who is 6'4" 255.  When he committed I suggested he could possibly be a Larry English replacement.  Hopefully he can come close and wreak havoc against MAC quarterbacks.
