Devonte Majors is an oversized wide receiver that will be used as an H-Back in the new Northern Illinois offense headed by Matt Canada. TE is one of the "Big Three" positions that Doeren is trying to improve the most this offseason. And for anybody that saw the Canada offense at NIU, this makes a boatload of sense.
So why did Majors pick the Huskies?
I choose NIU because, I've known Coach Doeren and Coach Canada for about 3 years now since he recruited me at Wisconsin, and Canada recruited me at Indiana so my family and I just felt really comfortable with them and the NIU family. Also I felt like i'd fit really well in Coach Canada's offense and NIU is close to home and near Chicago which us where I have a couple of family members as well.
Last season, Majors had 59 receptions for 715 yds and 6 TDs. Doeren was recruiting him pretty hard at Wisconsin, but I suspect waited to pull the trigger because of his 'tweener' size between WR and tight end. Huskie fans have been waiting for something to happen at this position for quite some time, so he could possibly have an impact right away. O'Fallon, MO is located in Northwest St. Louis.
