Injuries and depth chart news for the Northern Illinois Huskies as they battle the Central Michigan Chippewas this weekend.

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

It's Wednesday, so we get to check out the press conference quotes and the game notes for Central Michigan this weekend.

The question on everybody's mind this week is "Will Mat Sims be back this weekend." Never can I remember a kicker being so vital to this team. The answer is a little cloudy.

On kicker Mat Sims health status
"Yeah, he's day-to-day. He says he feels a lot better today, which is good news but today isn't a great day to go out and try to deal with something muscular. I mean I'm sore just getting out of my chair. I can only imagine him."

I'm going to take that as a probable I guess? We'll see what happens.

As for backup RB Keith Harris Jr, his ankle injury is worse than we thought originally. He'll need surgery and it will effectively end his season for 2013.

The prospects for Akeem Daniels seem decent this week:

On Akeem Daniels
"He's day to day. He's not ready. He hasn't practiced with us yet. I know that he's getting real close, and that is one of the last hurdles, is getting him to practice. So once we get him there, I think we'll feel real good about how fast he progresses. You've got to be careful with the injury he has on when to get him there. That's been the caution, but the right caution."

There might be some looks for true freshman Argeros Turner as well. James Spencer is now Cameron Stingily's backup.

Let's not forget about LB Michael Santacaterina and CB Sean Evans. Both starters will be out this weekend:

On Santacaterina's injury
"We tried him again on Saturday, and he wasn't ready to go, but I think another week of getting him right, and then it may come down to Saturday there again, where we try him and then he can or can't go, so I may not have a real good answer for you until Saturday, but I would assume we'll get something out of him this week."

On Sean Evans' injury
"Not this week, I don't expect him back. He's going to take a little time to get right. I'd say out for this week, and then next week we'll go into that day-to-day mode."

A lot of probably's and maybe's out there for this weekend. I'm optimistic, but this team is a little beat up.
